Custom Web Design

September 23, 2008

There are basically two types of websites.

  • One is just built and designed to be hosted on the net just as a show piece.
  • The other type of website is designed and is built to be functionally effective and efficient.

Any business organisation would always prefer the second type of web site. The second type of web site needs to be customized and designed specifically for serving theĀ  purpose of the existence of website. This is called Custom Web Design.

The following key issues have to be kept into consideration when we think of Custom Web Design.

  • Purpose: The basic purpose of a website is to facilitate the customers and /or clients and generate business. Take into consideration the purpose of having a web site and then only think of web design.
  • Graphics: The functionality of the website is the prime concern, not the graphics. The purpose of graphics is just decoration. A lot of graphics can lead to inconveniency at downloading the site.
  • Interactive: Take care that the site should be interactive not a closed type. More of this feature more will the prospective customers and clients feel better. The formalities for the site being interactive should not be very complex and cumbersome.
  • Advertisement: The web site should not be treated as an advertisement because people visit the website usually after seeing the advertisement somewhere else. People want more information than what they have seen in the advertisement.
  • Widgets: When you are decorating the website with audio , video or lighting to make it look different from the rest then it should be done in a way that looks good. The widgets should not distract the site visitor.
  • Up gradation: The customized web design should have an element of flexibility so as to accommodate the changes brought into it. One should be able to upgrade the custom web site easily.
  • Navigation: The website should be easily navigable. This means that it should be easy to use , clean and intuitive. This is the difference between a professional web design and amateur web design. The web site should be user friendly.
  • Information : The information placed on the website should be of relevance and arranged properly such that it is easily accessible to the site visitor.
  • Contact: One should not forget the contact information.
  • SEO : This is the last step to be concerned about. Search engine optimization is necessary to increase the traffic of the website visitors so that more business is generated.
